Frequently Asked Questions

What do Unitarian Universalists believe?

We get asked this a lot. Unitarian Universalists do not have a shared set of religious or spiritual beliefs. Instead, we share a set of core values and principles about how we should treat each other, ourselves, and the world we live in. Instead of telling our members and guests what we think is "The Truth" we encourage everyone to search for what is true for them and we support each other on that journey.

Is your church wheelchair accessible?

Yes. Our front entrance, sanctuary, hall, and bathrooms are all wheelchair accessible. Unfortunately the classrooms in our Religious Exploration building are not currently wheelchair accessible, we would make changes to our program to accommodate wheelchair users if needed.

Do you have a minister?

Yes. Our Affiliated Minister Judy Campbell preaches in our pulpit at least once a month. She also is the go-to minister for funerals, weddings, child dedications, and other family services. Other Sundays are lead by a rotation of ministers from other congregations, outside speakers, and members of our congregation. You can learn more about Rev. Judy by clicking here.

What is a "Welcoming Congregation?"

The UUA Welcoming Congregation program indicates that a church with this designation is intentionally inclusive of members of the LGBTQ+ community. We welcome gay, lesbian, bi, pan, trans, and other and all members of the queer community as their authentic selves.

Are you a Christian church?

While we have Christian roots from our Unitarian and Universalist predecessors, we have expanded our community to hold space for ALL religious, spiritual, and philosophical beliefs. We focus on the individual search for truth and meaning of our members, and offer support as they seek answers. In our space, you may meet individuals who identify as Christian, Jewish, Pagan, Humanist, Atheist, Hindu, Buddhist, and more. And for many of members, this identity changes as we learn all and grow and discover different paths.

What do you mean by "multifaith community?"

Our members come from a variety of religious and spiritual backgrounds. We have families who are Christian, Buddhist, Jewish, Pagan, and more. We also have members who are atheist and secular humanist. A belief in god or gods is not required to be part of our community.

What time do services start?

Services begin promptly at 10 am. We recommend coming 10-15 minutes earlier to get settled in. Following service we have coffee hour where we serve coffee, tea, and light refreshments. Members and guests can socialize, discuss the day's service, play board or card games, read books, do puzzles, etc.

Do you offer Sunday School for kids?

Yes. We offer Religious Exploration classes for any child or youth who wishes to participate. For more information on our RE program, please click here.

Do I need to dress up?

No. While some members enjoy putting on their "Sunday best," others come in their PJs. Wear what is comfortable for you. Just please be sure you are fully dressed and wear shoes.

Where can I park?

Members and guests may park in the post office parking lot on Ikes Way during times the post office is closed. Street parking is also available on Webster Street in front of the church, on one side of Park Street behind the church, and on Union Street, a short walk.

What other events and activities do you offer?

In addition to our regular Sunday services, we host community events, fundraisers, and other activities throughout the year. We hold a monthly Craft Night, Book Club, and are working on adding additional monthly small groups as well. The best way to learn what we have coming up is to sign up for our email list, or follow us on Facebook
